The most famous diving site in Indonesia is around small island facing the city of Manado. The city is located on the northern tip of Sulawesi island which is the biggest city on the north east of Indonesia since the Dutch colonization. The beauty of Manado as the capital city of North Sulawesi is comparable with the interesting under water garden and life of the water around the cape. North Sulawesi has many small islands around the cape, the biggest is Bunaken island, and many smaller islands are also a good site for diving recreation and serious diving program on the area. To reach Manado one has to fly from Jakarta or Denpasar Bali to Makassar city, and from Makassar to Manado with or without stop at Palu city, the capital city of Central Sulawesi. There is an international flight by Silk Air also from/to Singapore, yet the schedule is still not very good for traveling purpose. The reef of Bunaken Island is good all the way and 6 kilometers long island features no less than 13 diving sites. Bunaken is the centerpiece of the reserve and with careful observation and you can see majority of coral reef fishes found in Indonesia. Good coral growth usually extends down to 40-50 meters and in the deeper parts of the wall one can see sharks, large rays and Napoleon wrasse. Lekuan I, II and III are the most frequented site on Bunaken is a three-pronged coral wall in front of Lekuan Beach. Here is your good chance to see closely Napoleon wrasse, turtles, bump head parrotfish, scorpion fish and lionfish and on the reef edge swarms of anthias. The Lekuan is perfect based for diving beginner due to a little current and clear water. Kampung Bunaken is also good site for diving where you can find many variety of fish offers the same under water scenery as the Lekuan Site. Bunaken Timur is more separated than west and south bunaken, a little bit sloping profile where you can find white tip sharks. Sachiko's Point is steep wall prowled by big fish including large Tuna and Turtles. Mike's Point feature wall and a pinnacle, the coral growth including large, showy gorgonians is very good. Raymond wall with good hard and soft coral growth and some nice whip corals. Tengah is about the middle of Bunaken's western reef face. Mandolin just south of Tengah offers schooling fusiliers and good coral growth. The wall here is best at depths of 30-35 meters. Fukui Point also called Stingray Point has a stepped profile, the reef top is at 2-4 meters and then slopes down with several short but steep and drops. Cela-Cela in the crook of the reef along the south face offers many of the same charms as the popular Lekuan sites.

Scuba Diving South East Asia

This article describes some of the better dive sites in South East Asia. As a scuba diver, you will probably know that scuba diving in South East Asia has always been very popular because of its vast species of marine life and rich diversity of colorful corals.
As a matter of fact, there are many world class dive sites in this region and with its excellent underwater visibility, South East Asia is indeed a scuba diver's haven. So, here are some of the top dive sites in South East Asia many of which I have dived in several times.
We shall start with Indonesia and of course, the island of Bali cannot be left out. Perhaps the most dived site in Bali is the Liberty wreck. The wreck was a US army logistic ship sunk by Japanese submarine torpedoes during the last world war.
Liberty wreck lies in the depth of about 10m (32ft) to 30m (100ft) over 120m (385ft) of the sea bed. Divers can see guns, toilets, ship anchor chain among other things of a typical shipwreck. The wreck is heavily encrusted with corals and brightly decorated with gorgonian sea fans and sea anemones.
Scuba divers will also encounter large schools of trevally and more than 400 species of marine fishes and even exotic colonies of elusive garden eels.
Similan island in Thailand is another interesting dive site. Similan is located off the coast of Khao Lak which was hit badly by a Tsunami 2006. Nine granite islands made up the Similan islands. These islands are covered by luxuriant tropical rainforests surrounded by pristine white beaches and turquoise blue water.
This area is a protected national park. Below the water lie a sprawling underwater garden of deep canyons, coral gardens, huge granite boulders, caves and walls. Liveaboard scuba diving is the norm here.
Sipadan Island in Malaysia was made famous by Jacques Cousteau's documentary entitled Ghost Of The Sea Turtles. This is an oceanic island which is not connected to any continental shelf that rises about 2000 ft on an awesome limestone pinnacle and mushrooms out at the surface.
Many dive magazines have named Sipadan as one of the best dive sites in the world and reported to have the largest variety of soft corals in the world. At Sipadan, scuba divers will encounter exciting drift dives, fascinating coral formations, turtles, lobsters, barracudas and even various species of sharks.

The need for immunization depends on a variety of factors. These factors include age, health history, pregnancy status and travel destination. Depending on where you are headed a yellow fever immunization may be necessary. It actually may be the law, as several countries demand a certificate from the world traveler stating they have receive the yellow fever vaccine before they will allow entry.

A written waiver will be accepted by most countries for any of the above stated medical issues. It is recommended that a written waver be obtained from an embassy or consulate official before departure. These officials will need a Travel Clinic physician's letter explaining the reason for the waiver written on the physician's letterhead.

Bosscha Observatory (formerly called Bosscha Sterrenwacht) built by the Netherlands - Indische Vereeniging Sterrenkundige (NISV) or the Union Star Dutch East Indies. At the first meeting NISV, it was decided to build an observatory in Indonesia for the promotion of Astronomy in the Dutch East Indies. Karel Albert Rudolf Bosscha, a landlord at the Malabar tea plantation, willing to be the major funders and promised to provide telescope purchase. In recognition of his services in the construction of this observatory, hence the name Bosscha immortalized as the name of this observatory.
6. Taman Hutan Ir Juanda, also known as dago pakar, Taman Hutan Raya Juanda (juanda park) is reservation site. This park is a good place for picnic. This area is aout 50 ha and preserves over 2500 kind of trees from 40 families and 108 species. We can walk around in this park, also visit underground fortifications made by the Dutch and Japanese. From this site, we can hike up into the hills above Dago as far as Maribaya, about 5 km to the north. We can also enjoy the Cikapundung river that flows through this forest.

RAWA AOPA WATUMOHAI NATIONAL PARK (RAWNP)

Rawa Aopa Watumohai National Park ( RAWNP ) has many potential natural resources. According to the Government Administration, the national park is located in 4 districts : 6.238 Ha in the konawe district, located in the Lambuya and Puriala subdistrict, 12.824 Ha in the Kolaka district, located in the Tirawuta, Ladonggi Watubangga, and Tangketada subdistricts, 40.527 Ha in the south konawe districts, located in the Anggata and Tinanggea subdistricts, and 45.605 Ha in the Bombana districts, located in the Rorawatu subdistrict.
The Rawa Aopa Watumohai National Park area is merger of a few conservation areas. The Watumohai Buru Park, Rawa aopa Reservation, and Rumbia Land Buru Park, it is 105.194 Ha wide and was established as a National Park according to the decision letter of the ministry of Forestry No. 756/KPTS-ll/1990. It was been bordered with 4.158 milestones 366.673 km in length from 1985 to 1987.
The Rawa Aopa Watumohai National Park has 4 types of ecosyetem :mangrove forest, tropical forest, swamp, and savanna, thay are each in habited by a variety of wild life and rare plants that can only be found in Sulawesi. The various ecosystems have a direct affect on the number of protected wildlife inside the jungle. There are 28 kinds of mammals, of which 13 types are Sulawesi endemic, 4 types of Amphibians, of which 1 type is endemic to Sulawesi, 7 types of reptiles, 8 types of fish, 207 of birds, of which 38 types are Sulawesi endemic and 9 types are Indonesian endemic , and 323 types of plants.
As a preventation area, Rawa Aopa Watumohai National Park has tourist destinations that are similar to other tourist destinations in Indonesia. The tourist destination spread from the seashore to the lowland mountains. To reach the National Park, you can take public transportation, bus, Damri, or rented car, using route of Kendari – Ranomeeto, it is about 80 km and takes about 1 hour. The best time to visit the national park is in july or august, when local people hold their traditionalceremonies.

Location : On the island of South East Sulawesi, bordered by Muna, Buton, Konawe, . and the Banda sea.
Before it was established as a new autonomous district, Nort Buton was a part of the Muna district. The new district is located to the north of Buton island, majority of the people are members of the buton ethnic group. North Buton has many potential natural resources, like plantations, farming, forestry, fishery, and oil drilling. There are a variety of tourist destinations, from natural objects and cultural sites, to the Lipu palace fortress site. There is a building inside fortress called Baruga, an auditorium building used for society meeting. One of the beautiful beaqches in this area is Labuan Belanda beach. It is said that the beach was used by a VOC ship to dock during its trip to take spices from Buton and Maluku.
LABUAN BELANDA BEACH
The beach is already the holiday destination for North Butonese people. Many activities can be done on this beach, like swimming, sailing with a local’s boad and enjoying the sunrise.
